Coleman Sleeping Bags Series Review: Bag It Up!
Table of Contents
Coleman was founded in 1900, and it has since become one of the biggest names in outdoors, survival, and camping. It’s sleeping bags continue its fine tradition of providing comfort for those who just can’t seem to stay indoors!
This is a list of some of the com pany’s most popular sleeping bags. I actually got to sleep in some of these, or at least snuggle in them. There were also a few which I haven’t been able to get into personally, so I’ll probably have less to say about them. What I can say is that I trust Coleman’s quality, so have no fear. If you are going for a Coleman sleeping bag, find one that fits your needs and don’t look back. You’ve just found your bed away from home, and the review of your dreams here in our Coleman Sleeping Bags Series Review. And if you have an air mattress? Forget about it! Nothing will be bugging you, unless you need to wake up for guard duty like in the military or in Rob Reiner’s Stand By Me.
Coleman Big Game Sleeping Bag Review
Starting off our list is one of the coziest, largest, and most durable sleeping bags out there. For the price you pay for this, it better be, right? It is an ‘extreme weather’ sleeping bag which is designed to keep you warm while the world outside is stormy and cold. You can even zip two of these together, for an extra roomy experience. Also – the cherry on top this cake – it comes with a 12 x 20 inches cotton flannel pillow!
- Length: 84 inches.
- Width: 40 inches.
- For temperatures of -5-degrees Fahrenheit and up.
- Designed for heights up to 6 feet and 5 inches.
- Cover material: cotton canvas.
- Liner material: cotton flannel.
- Thermolock system which prevents heat from escaping.
- Two-way over-sized snag-free zipper.
- Quick folding, easy to store in its carrying bag.
- Machine washable.
- 5-year warranty.
- Recommended for ages 12 and up.
When properly used, this is a great bag which will serve you for years. If the temperatures actually do drop below a certain degree, it would offer less comfort for smaller individuals or children. It is a big bag, and it takes a certain amount of mass to generate warmth and keep it in. The pillow which comes with it is a nice little addition. There is absolutely nothing like setting up (or returning to) camp after a long day, stripping down to your t-shirt and boxers, and crawling into this behemoth of a sleeping bag. Big Game delivers big time. [MSRP: $109.99].

Coleman Youth Sleeping Bag Review
A bag designed primarily for kids, and which is made in a way that guarantees they stay comfortable, even when it is cold outside.
- Length: 66 inches.
- Width: 26 inches.
- Comfy even at 45-degrees Fahrenheit.
- Designed for heights up to 5 feet and 5 inches.
- Thermolock system which prevents heat from escaping.
- Snag-free opening and closing with a two-way zipper.
- Interior pocket for storing small items.
- Quick folding, easy to store in its carrying bag.
- Machine washable.
- 5-year warranty.
- Recommended for children of 6 and up.
This bag is durable, relatively light, and the pocket inside makes it easy to store anything from a wallet, or eyeglasses (remember to take their case!), to a flashlight or any other item you may need to reach in a hurry or keep
more protected. The colors are fun, the design is cute and practical. Altogether, a great bag with a great price. Healthy, warm, and toasty with the Coleman Youth. [MSRP: $24.99].
Coleman Green Valley Sleeping Bag Review
If the Big Game sleeping bag is designed for harsh winter, this one is more an autumn, cooler weather sleeping bag. It is not as thick as the Big Game, but it will keep you nice and warm even when it is 30 F outside.
- Length: 75 inches.
- Width: 33 inches.
- Comfy even at 30-degrees Fahrenheit.
- Designed for heights up to 5 feet and 11 inches.
- Polyester cover and cotton flannel liner.
- Thermolock system which prevents heat from escaping.
- Snag-free opening and closing with a two-way zipper.
- Quick folding, easy to store in its carrying bag.
- Machine washable.
- 5-year warranty.
For less extreme conditions, this is the one to go for. If you think you will be laying down in some rougher terrain or worse weather, consider getting the Big Game or the Big-N-Tall. The Green Valley is a great bag for the price, and if you zip two of them together it is a wonderful and comfy snuggle space for two people. It is not as luxurious as other bags, but it has some padding and will keep you warm. [MSRP: $39.99].

Coleman Palmetto Cool-Weather Sleeping Bag Review
This next bag very much resembles the Green Valley bag. It is meant for the same kind of weather, and is the same size. The differences are in the lining, the colors, and the price.
- Length: 75 inches.
- Width: 33 inches.
- Comfy even at 30-degrees Fahrenheit.
- Designed for heights up to 6 feet.
- Polyester cover and tricot fiber blend liner.
- Thermolock system which prevents heat from escaping.
- Snag-free opening and closing with a two-way zipper.
- Quick folding, easy to store in its carrying bag.
- Machine washable.
- 5-year warranty.
Like I said, this one is very similar to the Green Valley. If flannel isn’t your thing, perhaps this liner material will be more to your liking. The Palmetto is not as rugged as some of the other models on this list. You get what you pay for, even when it is a Coleman. Remember that brand names will only take you so far. “What’s in a name?”, said Mr Shakespeare. It’s light, it’s warm, and it’s has an appropriate price. [MSRP: $28.99].
Coleman Big-N-Tall Sleeping Bag Review
Another one of the more expensive models, the Big-N-Tall sleeping bag is a spacious, luxurious, and rugged piece of equipment. It’s a great place to curl up in and keep warm, even when the temperatures drop to uncomfortable levels.
- Length 84 inches.
- Width 40 inches.
- Comfy even at 30-degrees Fahrenheit.
- Designed for heights up to 6 feet and 7 inches.
- Tarpaulin, water resistant bottom.
- Polyester insulation.
- Thermolock system which prevents heat from escaping.
- Snag-free opening and closing with a two-way zipper.
- Interior pocket for storing small items.
- Quick folding, easy to store in its carrying bag.
- Machine washable.
- 5-year warranty.
Big-N-Tall is guaranteed to be one of the best and most convenient sleeping bags you could ever own. Coleman knows how to make good gear, and this bag is another example of their commitment towards their customers. [MSRP: $99.99].
Conclusion
Coleman sleeping bags are some of the most convenient ones out there. This short list brings together only a few of their more popular models. Coleman have been providing Americans with superior outdoors equipment for over 100 years. They have a dynamic catalog of products, and they are constantly innovating and engineering more advanced solutions of higher quality for campers, hikers, trekkers, fishermen, and outdoors folk in general.
Here’s a place to note that you should be responsible. Do some research, and – to the best of your ability – know the limitations and shortcomings of your gear. Be mindful of them. Unless you want to spend a miserable night in nature (and nobody does, really), pay close attention to your needs, and buy a sleeping bag accordingly. A sleeping bag is worth investing in, so get the best and most appropriate one you can afford. Because when the sun sets and those temperatures start to rapidly drop, you’ll thank yourself for shelling out a few extra bucks for a higher-quality bag.
The sleeping bags which I mentioned may not be everyone’s cup of outdoors fire-brewed tea, but they are definitely worth checking out. Coleman, as many people’s go-to outdoors company, has certainly proven its worth in the course of the 20th century. And in the 21st century? well, they just keep on truckin’, making life that much easier for those who want to stay comfortable outside, no matter the climate, terrain, or any other obstacles. Stay safe, stay warm, and stay happy. Have a great camping trip, and don’t forget to put out any fires properly, before heading out to your next adventure.
