Treehouse: Java Language
Java isn’t just a cup of coffee, bub. It’s a computer language, and it is over 20 years old. Java is one of the most popular languages out there, and it can be found in software tools, scientific applications, Big Data technology, mobile phones, Blu-ray players, car entertainment systems, and many other places.
Java is a well-established language. Over the years, it has developed a wide range of tools, which can be used for solving just about any problem. Java hasn’t stopped being popular ever since its inception, which is why its developers are always in high demand.
Treehouse online platform offers a Java category containing six courses and four workshops. There is also a designated learning track, 13 hours long, which takes students through the basics of Java and beyond.
Examples of Java language courses are: Java Annotations, Build a JavaFX Application, Java Basics, and Local Development Environments.
Course Review: Java Data Structures
This is an intermediate course, taught by Craig Dennis. In Java Data Structures, students will learn different approaches of storing, accessing, and bending data. A data structure is defined as a way of organizing data, so that it can be used effectively. When a developer has organized his or her data, one can be a lot more productive and way more efficient.
The topics covered in this course are:
- Packages
- Classes
- Inheritance and Interfaces
- Arrays
- Collections
- Lists, Sets, Maps, Queues implementations from the Java Collection Framework (JCF)
This is an intermediate course, which comes with prerequisites. Before enrolling in Java Data Structure, Treehouse recommends completing the courses Java Basics and Java Objects.
This course runs just over five hours in length. It has four modules, and it includes lectures, assessment quizzes, and lots of code challenges to tackle.
Course Review: Java Objects
This is a beginner course, also taught by Craig Dennis. Java is known as an Object Oriented Programming language. When working with Java, everything is an object. Because of this, understanding what objects are, and how they can be manipulated, is essential to any Java programmer’s knowledge base. In Java Objects, students will learn how to create ideas, mold them, and finally express those ideas by using Java objects.
The topics covered in this course are:
- Patterns for modeling real life objects
- Classes
- Methods and accessors
- Exceptions
This course is a beginner course, but it has a prerequisite. Treehouse recommends that students first complete the Java Basics course, before beginning their studies of Java Objects.
Java Objects runs three-and-a-half hours long, and it has four modules. These modules contain lectures, assessment quizzes, and many code challenges along the way. The final module also has a bit of extra credit work, for students who are interested.
